Paeonia 'Cang Jiao'

Zhaolou Peony Garden, Heze in 1968.

Cang Jiao. Crown form, sometimes anemone form occurs. Flowers 16cm x 7cm, light red (52-D), soft; the outer petals 3- whorled, thin, usually toothed, suffused with purplish red at the base; the inner petals wrinkled, fairly sparse, some petaloid filaments bearing anthers are present; pistils developed, petaloid, yellowish green. Stalks very short, flowers hidden among leaves. Flowering midseason. Plant medium to dwarf, partially spreading. Branches stout. Leaves orbicular, large-sized, thick; leaflets ovate, apex acute, upper surface rough, deep green, suffused purple on the margins. Growth vigorous, flowers many. Bred by Zhaolou Peony Garden, Heze in 1968.

08. CANG JIAO, «Concubina nascosta». Fiore semidoppio, rosa intenso, tardivo, vuole un luogo protetto. Portamento a cespuglio, vigoroso Il nome si richiama a un proverbio cinese, «la concubina nascosta in un palazzo d'oro», a significare l'amata segregata in una gabbia d'oro.

08. CANG JIAO "Hidden Concubine" The name refers to a Chinese legend, "The concubine hidden in a golden palace", signifying a lady-love kept in a golden cage. Flowers: bright pink; semi - double, late flowering. Habit: bushy, vigorous. Needs a sheltered site.
