Paeonia 'Lois Arleen'

type: [herbaceous peony] – [herbaceous hybrid]

LOIS ARLEEN (Moots 1962) SD to D.M. Deep pink hybrid. Parentage; or X Rose Shaylor x Lobata Sunbeam. Semi-double, tall, midseason, holds color, heavy stems. Bulletin #153 June 1959.

Michael Denny on Y!groups 2002:

Frank Moots of Newton Kansas introduced three hybrids. Frank Keith, Joyce Ellen, Lois Arleen. None of these are easily available. Al Rogers says that Riviere (France) has 'Frank Keith' and that Cedar Creek (Canada) has 'Joyce Ellen'. Cedar Creek is no longer selling roots.

I am growing both 'Joyce Ellen' and 'Lois Arleen' and would recommend both if you can find them. I do not know anything about 'Frank Keith'. Does anyone else grow any of these three? For me 'Joyce Ellen' is a very tall, red or dark pink single. It will bloom about the same time as 'Cythera' or 'Diana Parks'. The flowers are quite large and the stems strong.

'Lois Arleen' is very floriferous with smaller semi-double red flowers that bloom a little earlier than 'Joyce Ellen' A very good plant and pretty red colour.
