Ao Yang. Chrysanthemum form. Flowers 16cm x 4cm, purplish red (53-C), lustrous; petals, stiff, regular, conspicuously layered; stamens normal, small; floral discs purple. Stalks slender, stiff, flowers upright. Flowering midseason. Plant medium height, erect. Branches fairly slender, stiff. Leaves long, medium-sized, stiff; leaflets long ovate, acuminate at the apex. Growth vigorous but sensitive to bad weather during early spring; young flower buds often abort or flower irregularly due to temperature change, which may reduced rate of flowering; flowers relatively few. Bred by Zhaolou Peony Garden, Heze in 1963.
