MARKSBURG (Goos & Koenemann) - Double - Dark Red. Bulletin 68, page 20.

MARK TWAIN (Franklin, 1939) - Double - Crimson - Midseason. Tall. Rich crimson with a metallic sheen. A full rose type, double with all long petals loosely packed and outspread. A few buried stamens. Good stems. Bulletin 76.

MARMONTEL (Crousse, 1898) - Double - Pink - DISCARDED - Midseason.

MARQUIS C. LAGERGREN (Dessert, 1911) - Double - Red - Midseason. Brilliant cherry-red with k. darker shadings. List in Wild 1955 catalog.

MARQUISE d'IVRY (Calot, 1857) - Double - Light flesh color - DISCARDED - Midseason.

MARTA (Saunders, 1938) - Semi-Double - Red - Early - Hybrid. Very tall. Brilliant, lustrous, deepest mahogany red with touches of white on some petals. Often much like a Japanese type in its composition. Albiflora x officinalis. Lists in Bulletins 91 and 129.

MARY EASTMAN (Franklin, 1940) - Double - Creamy Rose - Late. Tall. Large. Creamy rose. Perfect form. List in Bulletin 91.

MARY E. HALL (Bockstoce, 1935) (1933) - Double - Pink (L129) Red (L91) - Early Hybrid. Albiflora x officinalis. Letter from Mr. Bockstoce, 1955, says Pink. Early. Lists in Bulletins 91 and 129.

MARY ELLEN (Franklin, 1931) - Semi-Double - Blush-White. Late. 36" high. Very large. Large petals, strong stems, heavy foliage and vigorous. Fine. Bulletin 47.

MARY E. NICHOLLS (Nicholls, 1941) - Double - White - Late Midseason. Medium height. Double of the best rose form, very large. Very wide petals. Pure white of warm tone. Very strong stems. Lasting substance. Grows and blooms well. #210 from AMA-NO-SODE. Bulletin 83.

MARYGOLD (Freeborn, 1931) - Jap. - Rose Pink. A rose pink Jap of good size, with very thick, stiff, fine gold staminodes. Bulletin 47.

MARY J. HAWKE (Hawke, 1946) - Double - Red - Midseason. Tall. From 48 to 50". No fragrance. A medium dark red (several shades darker than Longfellow) flower with some stamen showing. It has a decided sheen. Leaves dark green starting near the ground. Stems are erect, stiff and strong. Strong grower and free bloomer. Bulletin 103.

MARY JO (Karth, 1941) - Formerly JOHANNA. Double - Blush - Late Midseason. Medium height. Rounded petals. Soft rose ivory form a lace-like flat bloom. Golden stamens giva the whole flower an orange cast. Profuse bloomer. Good foliage. Bulletin 83 and 93.

MARY JOAN CUMMINGS (Guppy, 1940) - Single - Pale Pink - Early. Opens pale pink fades nearly white. Two rows of large petals, lacinated with ruffled edges. Good substance. Large cushion of yellow stamens. Pistils pale green with white stigmas. Stiff stems. Glossy dark green foliage. Floriferous. Bulletin 79.

MARY L. (Lins) - Double - White. Large, high-built, double white, showing red on some blooms. Must be fully established to produce typical blooms. Lins' 1955 catalog.

MARY LENA (Lyman, 1936) - Jap. - Pale Pink. Anemone Jap. Pale pink guards, center of white fringed petaloids like "shredded cabbage". Good form. Bulletin 81.

MARY L. HOLLIS (Hollis, 1907) - Semi-Double - Pink - Midseason. Medium height. Moderate fragrance. Large. Bright vivid pink, with scarcely any taint of lavender; outer petals very long and smooth; the cupped center is rough and irregular, blotched with white, showing many stamens and scarlet flecks occasionally appear. A very clear, soft color, and an attractive informal flower of good size. M.

MARY LOUISE (Lyman, 1940) - Single - Medium pink. Very tall. Medium pink large blossoms, long large petals in two rows, full and fine stamens, petals edged and tipped white. Strong stems, erect. Fine appearing. Bulletin 81.

MARY LOU KIMMEY (Edlund, 1929) - Double - Light Pink - Midseason. Tall. Fragrant. Light pink with carmine splashes. Stiff upright stems. Very full flowers with yellow stamens among the petals. Bulletin 39.

MARY MAY (Berneche, 1924) - Jap. - Deep Red. Very good. Midseason. List in Bulletin 91.

MARY MERRILL (Lyman, 1942) - Semi-Double - Red. Deep red bomb. Large. Scattered stamens in irregular collars. List in Bulletin 93.

MARY MOY (Roberts, 1930) - Jap. - Pink - Midseason. Medium sized rose pink guards with long, narrow staminodes, yellow suffused with pink. Carpels tipped light pink and disc pink. Quite an unusual flower and a very attractive one. A fine subject for the garden. List in Bulletin 91.

MARY P. KING (Franklin, 1920) - Double - Pink - Midseason. Medium height. Mild fragrance. Large. Rich, even flesh-pink, opening to a broad lily-like center, with a faint yellow suffusion in the depths and a slightly darker pink tint; some petals edged with crimson. Medium vigor; moderately free-flowering; stiff stems. Excellent foliage. A variable flower, sometimes extremely ragged in the collar, giving the appearance of a semi-double flower. It is unusually clear in color, having very little of the lavender tint so common in pink peonies. "Maiden name of A. B. Franklin's mother." Mabel L. Franklin.

MARY PRUDHOMME (Prudhomme) - Double - White. Said to be of fine form and great beauty. List in Bulletin 91.
