farquhar, james F., was born in Fyvie, Scotland, and learned his profession from his father .who was head gardener at Fyvie Castle in Aberdeenshire. After coming to America, he was for a few years head-gardener at Forest Hills Cemetery, Boston, Massachusetts. In 1882, he formed, with his brother, the R. & J. Farquhar Company, of Boston, and was actively engaged in business until shortly before his death, which occurred in May, 1921. In the summer of 1918 Mr. Farquhar was awarded first prize for a new peony seedling and a silver medal for a collection of peonies by the Massachusetts Horticultural Society. He was a member of that Society as well as of the Society of American Florists and Ornamental Horticulturists, the Gardeners and Florists Club of Boston, and the Horticultural Club.
