Nice foliage, strong stems, always opens well. If opened away from the sun the light salmon pink gives a bloom of extra-ordinary charm. Bulletin 126.

MAY MORNING (Saunders, 1950) - Single - Creamy Apricot - Hybrid. Mlokosewitschi x tenuifolia - 2nd generation. List in Bulletin 129.

MAY OLESON (Oleson, 1924) - Single - Pink - Midseason. Color, light shell pink. One row of petals overlapping. Manny dainty yellow stamens in center. Excellent cut flower variety of lasting quality. Flowers held erect. M. Bulletin 29.

MAYTIME (Auten, 1943) - Single - Red - Early - Hybrid. Dwarf. Dark orange red. Officinalis x albiflora. Lists in Bulletins 91 and 129.

MEADOW STAR (Neeley, 1936) - Now LOYALTY . List in Bulletin 91.

MEADOWVALE (Hollis, 1903 - Double - Solferino-red - Midseason.

MECCA (Murawska) - Single - Red - Midseason. List in Bulletin 91.  

MEDIA (Kelway) - Double - Deep Pink. 1930 Wild catalog: Clear, deep pink or rose of perfect form; very large size. A glorious peony. This peony was secured from Kelway some years ago by Mr. J. Rosenfield. A very high class peony. Midseason.

MEDICINE HAT (Auten, 1936) - Single -' fed. Medium height. Very dark red. Color holds. Stiff stems, good plant. Bulletin 65.

MEDON (Origin unknown) - Single - Flesh - Midseason.

MEDUSA (Kelway) - Double - Lilac-Rose - Midseason.

MEDUSA (Origin unknown) - Jap. - Flesh White - Midseason.

MEGUNTICOOK (Guppy, 1935) - Jap. - Bright Red - Bulletin 60.

MEIGETSUKO (Unknown) - Jap. - Lilac-Rose. Bright lilac-rose, two rows of petals; golden center. Midseason. Chatauqua Flowerfield.

MEISSONIER (Crousse, 1886) - Double - Red - Midseason - DISCARDED. 1930 Wild catalog: Very brilliant crimson. In some cut flower markets known as the American Beauty Peony on account of its resemblance in color to the rose of that name; good cut-flower variety. In fact, some think it the very best red for cut flowers. M.

MEL GEDGE (Kelsey, 1937) - Double - White - Midseason. Huge white unwinding into a globe of loveliness. Lists in Bulletins 91 and 109.

MELLEN KNIGHT (Brand, 1920) - Single - Dark Red - Early. Tall. Dark red. Erect. Brand's 1955 catalog carries it as above. List in Bulletin 130 spells it MELLIN KNIGHT.

MELLON MOON (Jones, 1938) - Double - Blush - Midseason. Very fragrant. Entirely double excepting a golden halo in this bloom due to a few petal-concealed stamens. Opens with a slight blush into a striking soft white flow. Rose type. Center petalage finer and tuft-like. Blooms large, very free-flowering. Vigorous. Bulletin 71.

MELODY (Auten, 1925) - DISCARDED. Anemone. Pale pink, to yellow-white. Bulletin 25 and 91.

MEMORIAL QUEEN (Rosenfield, 1934) - Double - Pink. A sport of EDULIS SUPERBA. In every way identical with that variety except the bloom is clear pink. The color of Sarah Bernhardt. Bulletin 56.

MEMORY (Jones, 1938) - Double - Blush Pink - Late. 30" stems. Slightly fragrant. An extraordinarily large bloom of the rose type. Blush pink with a trace of tan at center. Entirely double flower with crinkled guard petals and lacy center. Bulletin 71.

MENDOTA (Auten, 1937) - Semi-Double - Red - Midseason. Tall. Brilliant red showing some rich purple. A very large high-built red semi-double on tall, stiff stems. Color lasts well, Bulletin 69.

MENTOR GRAHAM (Lanigan, 1938) - Double - White - Late Midseason. Medium height. Slightly fragrant. Very large flower, opening pale pink, changing to white. Collar brightened by yellow stamens; thread-like crimson edge on some center petals. Floriferous, stems and foliage of average quality. This peony was selected and christened by Mrs. Frank Seller, granddaughter of Mentor Graham, Lincoln's tutor and friend. Bulletin 73.

MERCY (Saunders, 1940) (1949) - Single - Salmon Rose - Hybrid. Salmon rose cup. List in Bulletin 129 gives the date, 1949. Albiflora x Otto Froebel. Bulletin 91 and 129.

MERMAID (Saunders, 1950) - Single - Lavender - Hybrid. A large delicate single flower, palest lavender. Charming and unique. Parentage uncertain. Saunders catalog, 1955. List in Bulletin 129.

MERRIGOLD (Wright, 1932) - Jap. - Pink. Large, bright, violet pink petals with prominent bunch of long, stiff, filaceous rich, bright yellow petaloids. Bulletin 53.

MABEL CLAIRE (Pleas, 1916) - Double - Cerise - Midseason.

MERRILL K. FRANKLIN (Franklin) - Double - White with lavender markings. Sometimes called MERRILL FRANKLIN. 1948 Wild catalog: Large, late, waxy white on strong stems with foliage to the ground. List in Bulletin 91.

MERRIMAC (Thurlows & Stranger, 1937) - Double - Rose Pink - Late. Very large rose pink of an unusual shade. List in Bulletin 91.

MESSAGERE (Lemoine, 1909) - Single - White - Hybrid. White with green tints. Albiflora x Wittmanniana. List in Bulletin 91.

METEOR (Auten, 1933) - Jap. - Red. Medium height. Fine red Jap with typical center. Stiff stems. Bulletin 54.

METEOR FLIGHT (Kelway) - Single - Pink - Midseason.

MIAMI ROSE (Jones) - Double - White - Early Midseason. Fragrant. Very large, fragrant blush white with crimson blotches. 1955 catalog, Tuckdawa Garden, Peru, Ind.

MICHELET (Crousse, before 1900) - Double - DISCARDED - Midseason.

MID-AMERICA (Bigger, 1952) - Now known as DEER CREEK. Bulletins 126 and 127.

MID MAY (Saunders, 1950) - Single - Pink - Hybrid. Tall. Great rounded petals of palest apple-blossom pink; fine center. Tall, lovely plant. Albiflora x officinalis. List in Bulletin 129.

MIDNIGHT (Brand, 1907) - Double - Red - DISCARDED. 1930 Wild catalog: Very dark crimson; very poor grower. Midseason.
